How might we create a child-led initiative about connecting tamariki from any background with Te Taioa, that is actively supported by caregivers and educators? This should encourage physical engagement with nature, and widen their understanding of their place in the natural world through a Te Ao Māori lens.
Introducing Rito. Rito is a 50-day interschool challenge aimed at years 1 - 6 in the Wellington region, with the chance to win an outdoor educational space for your school.
Why the name Rito?
In Te Ao Māori, Rito is the centre shoot of the harakeke - likened to a child. The surrounding leaves are known as "awhi rito", likened to parents and educators. The outershoots represent tūpuna (ancestors). This metaphor is prevalent throughout our design.
The dossier for this project can be found here.
